Cheap pinball finds - discussion thread for new projects

Huh, auction ended, didn’t hit reserve, and the Ebayer re-listed it. Its at $405 not, and still hasn’t hit the reserve.

Williams Aztec - $285 in Oklahoma City http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/clt/4920025701.html

Never played it but looks fun. Well-regarded among most EM collectors.

Wow the spinner on that game does everything right, too bad there isn’t more to do in the game. The guy had some real flipper skillz though.

The playfield and back glass like great condition and another affordable starter. I just don’t like the theme. It would be a cool re-theme project? @Hardsuit

I don’t like the gameplay, so kinda a waste to put all the effort into doing a re-theme, IMO.

Yeah that spinner is awesome. Looks very satisfying to blast it and listen to that rat-a-tat-tat sound and score reel clicking up. Sadly, that looks like the only shot in the game. Gameplay does look a 'lil shallow.

BTW, there’s a guy in San Antonio who has an Aladdin’s Castle he could bring to TPF. Says the previous owner painted the cabinet black but if latex paint might be recoverable down to the original stencils if still there. Says the glass is beautiful and playfield has some wear. Info on the game here: http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=40

No price but is entertaining offers. I asked for pics.

Nick and I played Aladdin’s Castle at Arcade Expo this January. Really nice looking machine and plays decently.

Strange Science for $700 close to Waco. I bet this goes quickly. Cool theme for geeks like us.

If you happen to see this early enough and are interested… might want to inquire ASAP. http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/for/4923452776.html

Aladdin’s Castle was a fun machine. I remember it clearly from the games we played. It did have that bit of special in the game play, the spinner was a blast to hit when lit and the bonus made an impact on the game. It is a good option if you can grab it, should be able to get it very cheap if the cabinet has been mis-painted.

Volley didn’t sell at $355. Might take an offer of $400?

Yep… Strange Science disappeared quickly. * poof *

Interesting pinball sales statistic: The blue line represents average price, and the yellow line indicates the number of machines sold (on eBay).

As you can see, especially since 2010, the knee of the curve has taken a strong upswing as availability dwindles and prices rise. i.e. the well is drying up. Auction houses rarely have pinball machines anymore (mostly ticket redemption games).

Better get while the gettin’s good!

Not really cheap, but very local:

They were asking in the area of $700-$800. I believe it works, but does need some obvious
cleaning, replacement of rubbers, etc.

Saw it at Curiosities (gaston and abrams) http://www.getcuriosities.com/

Whoa thanks for pointing that out! I’ve been in there a dozen times but never found any pinball machines. Hopefully the white stuff on the playfield is dust and not worn off paint.

It’s actually a pretty good game and fairly collectible.

When I asked about it to get the price, he mentioned that they had picked it up recently at an estate sale.

Thanks Paul. I, er, ah, couldn’t help myself. Acquired it for $675. Not a steal, but fair enough considering it was a retail store… had to pay the finder’s fee. The game wasn’t fully functional but I’m sure I can get it working without too much effort.

The superb condition of the glass and playfield and inner mechs won me over (the white stuff was only dust). Apparently it sat in someone’s home for a long time and was well-preserved.

This game will clean up very nicely after I get done with it. Thanks again for your quick eagle-eye reply… it had only been there for one day!

Hah! Glad I spotted it for you. Now I’ll just have to wait to play it after you’ve had a chance to get it up and running again.

Williams 4 Roses - $575 in Aledo

Beautiful game in “reverse wedgehead” style. Seller might accept best offer.

So which (if any) of the current and prior projects that have passed thru VECTOR can we expect to see at the Texas Pinball Festival?

For the 2015 show, Flipper Fair and King Pin will be featured. Doozie was completed at DMS and will also be present via Shawn Christian. It is possible Playball may make a reappearance depending upon the current owner’s plans.

Arrgh… bad timing on the rest. I have several which are in the middle of restoration but unfortunately not playable yet. By 2016, I predict we will be able to feature a rather astonishing collection of DMS-restored games!
