I’m just wondering if the chairs should meet ---- say quarterly ---- to talk about what’s cooking, what’s needed, cross-over potential and general sharing of brains. Who would be interested in this?
@Committee_Chairs
I think this is a great idea.
Thanks Nicole, Woodshop is in!
Sounds good, sign me up!
Laser is in. Pew pew.
Electronics is in.
Don’t think we’ve had a chair mtng since this one:
I’m in and think it is a good idea.
I’m going to throw out some dates:
Feb 8th
Feb 15th
Feb 25th (before or after the pot luck)
I’m in…
The 25th would work best for me.
Not a chair but I wanted to say this bc I know we as an organization have such a short institutional memory. This gets tried out every once in a while, twice that I can think of in the last two years.
I think it’s a good idea, but the last one I went to, every committee just went over what’s new in their area which is what usually happens at a membership meeting. So to me in felt like a waste of time. If there’s an agenda, I think it could work better.
I’m also going to throw this out there. Thank you so much for all that you do @Committee_Chairs !! Y’all are the real MVPs!
The 15th does not work for me… Other dates are fine
the 25th is better, wednesdays are not good days… hopefully in future time it will be
I have a better idea what about the 9th so we can be present at the membership meeting and talk after?
Valuable uses of time in my eyes (so far):
Discussions of potential crossover projects/classes.
What we can do better for introduction for new members/buy in.
Coordinate one day a month for an intro day to areas (try to) -if wanted-
Briefly outline one hands on activity for open house for each area -if wanted- (September)
Plan what would be first for online training for each committee and rate which one would be the most important to do first.
Ps Alex gets all the credit for pointing out how valuable the membership meeting is - specifically they are going to discuss things we should hear.
What I like about the Chair meetings are the discussions about goals and how other committees may help or make suggestions. I know at the last meeting, ages ago, there was also discussion of what items were needed and wanted as well as getting rid of. There was some transfer of items between committees. A specific example is Digit Media was upgrading to a 4K monitor. CA needed a monitor, we offered $150 for the DM’s old one which put them closer to their goal and we got a monitor cheap. All the money stayed within the Space.
I’d propose the Chair meeting be scheduled quarterly on the night of the Member meeting but do it at 6:30 or 7:00 an hour before the member meeting rather than after so it’s not so late. Plus it limits it to an hour or 90 minutes (I currently schedule one of the Machine Shop meetings just before member meetings to limit them to an hour and hopefully get folks to attend afterwards). If something really needs to be discussed it can be reconvened after the member meeting - which is when it’s proposed to meet now.
How many people could attend Feb 9th (yes I know - Thursday)
I could attend.
5:30-6:45?
i think the 9th is a little too soon… not everyone can plan for that soon.
Thursday works for me, Wednesday is Texas Hold 'em … that’s where other Texans hold my $50 at the end of the night.
