I’m looking for someone willing to give me a hands-on tutorial with a gas chainsaw—specifically the Echo 7310PW. I’ve got some felled oak and cedar trees on my Central Texas property that I need to break down, and while I’ve used a battery chainsaw before, this is my first time working with a beast of this size.
If anyone has experience and wouldn’t mind showing me the ropes, I’d be very grateful.
First things first…since you have other chainsaw/experience, you probably already do, but if not, make sure you have good safety/protection: face shield, hearing protection, heavy duty (leather) gloves, and ideally extra leg protection. As always, Safety Third.
Also, consider an Oregon Powersharp bar/chain (a.k.a. easy in-the-field sharpening). The alternative is keeping a few back-up chains with you and getting good at changing them out…not a bad thing to get good at if you have a chainsaw, actually.
And reminder, just like table saw, there are different chains fro cross-cutting and rip-cutting (not sure if Powersharp supports both).
Hello @mblatz thank you so much for your feedback.
I do have the appropriate PPE, extra rip and cross chains (from Oregon), as well as a sharpener. My bar is 28” with a max 32”. It appears the Powersharp accommodates up to an 18” bar.
I am asking more along the lines of cutting methods and handling of larger chainsaws. My small one is equivalent to 40ccs, but this echo unit is 73ccs and a lot more to handle.
