Ceramics Kiln News - June 2026

Hello Potters!

PLEASE READ THIS INFO

Follow this thread and please pick up your pieces ASAP by confirming that the makers mark on the item is yours. Don’t forget your personal cookies, they may not be stacked with your piece.

  • We have a 21 day limit for items to be left on ANY shelf in our area.
  • There is no personal storage on our shelves or in the Ceramics space.
  • Bisque/glaze items, clay, or tools, should not be on the “In Progress” shelves.
  • Check the “Needs Attention Shelf”. There will be a note attached as to why the kiln team did/cannot fire, fix the issue for it to be fired. Not fixing the issue may result a required conversation with the Kiln Team before firing.
  • “Greenware Ready to Fire” shelves - all items must be bone dry and no longer cool to the touch and free of any organic matter (stems, leaves, paper).
  • Glaze items need to follow the 1/4" rule or you must provide your own cookie. * Please follow all of our firing guidelines.
  • Remember that large, odd shaped, or super tall items may take longer to get through firings especially if you do not provide your own cookie for firing.
  • Posts/Stilts should make the item secure, allow room for potential glaze runs, and not make your item tippy. You must provide your own cookies and please glue your item to your post/stilt.
  • Bead racks require Your own cookie large enough to move the entire setup together.
  • You may use a small number of pea sized wading for glaze firings.
  • If something is different than the norm please provide a note for the kiln team so we know what you are attempting to do. Communication is always great!
  • Please do not place more than 1/2 kiln firing shelf of items at any one time on the shelves.

I loaded Bisque today and as i was ready to load the cute little red dino, i saw he was cracked pretty badly so i left him sitting where he was placed. If this is your piece, please let the kiln team know if you still want it fired as-is, or if you prefer to come get it.

Hi!! I see some of my pieces that were put into a bisque firing in one of the images but not on the shelf, was that a mistake?

There is a bisque kiln firing now. It will be a couple days until these items are out of the kiln.

Caution to whoever unloads my spikey face planter, it may be a bit sharp after the bisque firing. If you are uncomfortable grabbing it by the sides feel free to grab it by the face area to lift it up! I have to sand it. Thank you

If you see your pieces in one of the finished kiln unloading photos, then they were placed on the shelves. I would always recommend looking at every shelf and checking anything that is stacked. Due to space constraints when unloading, sometimes we overflow into mixed bisque/glaze shelf use.

It is very, very rare that someone picks up pieces mistakenly but it does happen. If your work is not clearly signed then that can make it more challenging.

And lastly, if your pieces are on the shelf for more than 21 days, they are subject to disposal.

However! Almost always, pieces turn up. Sometimes it can be helpful to ask someone else at the space to help you look. I’ve missed noticing my own work when unloading before, heh. Best of luck!

Thank you! The image you uploaded looked like they were still greenware so I wasn’t sure. I will check again tomorrow

Oh! I went back and looked at the photos and I see where the confusion is occurring.

I mistakenly included an extra photo by accident. You are correct, that last photo (top shelf of bisque) is unfired. There was a question about that kiln load for the Kiln Team thread and when I uploaded the glaze unload, I included everything. My bad, camera roll thumbnails small, totally didn’t check post after sending!

I started that bisque load this (Sunday) morning. Big apologies for the confusion, I’m editing the former post now.

Hello! I just picked up the little bear jar in this load, but the bat mug I dropped at the same time wasn’t there and I don’t see it in the next load. Has anyone happened to see it? I looked like three times

Hi Becky,
It’s likely still in a kiln as it probably got scooped up in a different kiln load. I think we are waiting on kilns to cool right now as well as an available volunteer to unload.

In the future, feel free to leave a note if multiple items need to be fired together and as long as they aren’t awkward shapes, we should be able to accommodate the request.

Keep checking talk for unloading pics - your item should pop out in the next couple of days.

Thanks,
Juls
