Ceramics Kiln News April 2025

Hello Potters!

Please follow this thread to determine if your items are ready for pick up. Please pickup your piece(s) ASAP, we are a very busy community and need the room to unload kilns when ready.

Don’t forget your personal cookies, they may not be stacked with your piece due to room on the shelves.

*We have a 21 day limit for items to be left on any shelf in our area. The 3 week time frame went into effect in February so please check on your items timely, we really don’t want to toss your work.

As a reminder there is no personal storage on our shelves or in the Ceramics space, that means bisque/glaze items, clay, or tools, should not be on the “In Progress” shelves (at any time) or left on the work tables. If you happen to forget something in the space, please come pick it up in a timely manner.

If you have a piece that’s seems to be missing, please double check the “Needs Attention Shelf”. Your piece will have a note attached as to why the kiln team did/cannot fire, it is important that you fix the issue in order for your piece to be fired. Continuing to place your item on the shelf for firing without fixing the issue will not result in firing and a required conversation with the Team lead before we will fire. Make sure to check all 4 bisque shelves or the top glaze shelf to locate your items.

When placing items on the “Greenware Ready to Fire” shelves please make sure that they are bone dry, not cool to the touch, they are free of any organic matter like leaves, stems, paper, etc… Wet items warp our shelves and will not be fired.

Glaze items need to follow the 1/4" rule or you must provide your own cookie. Please follow all of our firing guidelines. Remember that large, odd shaped, or super tall items may take longer to get through firings if you do not provide your own cookie for firing. When posting an item, please glue it (if possible) to your cookie and piece so it stays where you would like it to be. Remember that posts should make the item secure, allow room for potential glaze runs, and not make your item tippy.

If something is different than the norm please provide a note for the kiln team so we know what you are attempting to do.

Thank you!

Dropped some bisque off Saturday morning. Wondering if it’s out of kiln yet

I would look at the pictures we post…or look on the shelves as we load and unload quite a lot of items.

Yeah, I was looking at the cameras and it looks like some things were unloaded, but there’s no pictures from that. I have to drive almost an hour in each direction to get there and I don’t wanna go just to look.

You have to look at the pictures on this thread…not through the cameras. If you dont see them in the pictures…that either means they are in a kiln or still waiting to be fired

Yes, but I saw in the cameras that the kilns got unloaded yesterday , and I’ve been waiting all day and last night for the pictures. I don’t know what was in the kilns.

From the looks of it…all pictures of bisque have been uploaded. The only pictures not showing yet are from a glaze load that was unloaded today :+1:
