Ceramic tips and tricks

Howdy,

Like most of you, I’ve been making a bunch of stuff at home during the pandemic. I thought maybe we could use this thread as a place to share tips and questions for making stuff at home.

I’m starting to use my plates and bowls at home as molds, but I’m having a hard time getting the clay not to stick completely. Then it rips and I have to start over

Saran wrap can be your friend. Also – a while back some folks were cutting pendants with small cookie cutters, and used vegetable oil for a release. While you generally don’t want oil around your pottery, it burns off of the greenware. I didn’t help with any of that, but I didn’t hear any problems, either.

Cornstarch has always worked for me :slightly_smiling_face:

Second syran wrap. I use that on my styrofoam sphere forms for pumpkins.
