I would like to propose that we authorize people to put the slip-casting molds on the in-progress shelves for 7 days. We will need to be sure that this only applies to the slip-casting molds, not the slump molds.
Sometimes if one is using a large mold, it may not be dry enough to “release” by the time one has to leave. While it should be dry enough to release in a matter of a few hours, 7 days should give the person enough time to make it back to DMS.
The slump molds, on the other hand, should be removed before they start to dry too much because the item will crack from being stretched as it dries.
Slump/hump molds have been no more than 48 hours in the past. We should confirm this timing.
We also need to consider shelf space as part of this conversation. The prior guidelines were that you need to make sure you have the time to unmold your item because molds should not be stored in progress.
My suggestion is that we follow the same guidelines of the hump/slump molds if molds are to be allowed on in progress.
Teaching - nothing to report other than thank you to all the teachers who are consistently putting up classes. If anyone is interested in teaching send them my way.
Kiln Team - Post made with Wadding decision.
We need to remember to always use cookies that fit the profile of the piece. There is already glaze drips on the new bottom solid shelf along with some of the other new shelves for the larger kiln. Maintenance and Kiln wash is a must. If we fire the shelf again with the drip it will just sink in lower until it is no longer removeable.
