I talk lots about Cedars Union. I think they are interesting and I would love to run something similar someday but not competitive to them…in Costa Rica where I can manage artists with my feet in the sand and my head in the sky. Anywhooo. They are doing a fundraiser via eBay and it’s worth a poke around to watch how it pans out.
They do things differently. They are not Makerspace. They are another maker-like place to be aware of and curious about.
Here’s a picture of an adorable baby octopus that could actually kill you for the brain goo.
They are more aligned with the intentions as ACME Creation Lab. Arty 1st., Makerish 2nd. They could probably use some fundraising support as they recently had a fire.
And better access to parking.
(I had a pal who lived in the Cedars, and parking went from free but a walk away to costly and a goodly distance away. Bleah.)
I went and took my students on a field trip to see an artist who worked out of the space. I was very impressed with them. I would say it’s more like a graduate fine art studio without the grad school cost. They have mentorships, workshops geared towards professional artists and a workshop to support the members. The focus is very tight and dialed in.
everyplace has a niche.
I just like that they have a presence on eBay and several avenues for fundraising. Now they have a paid staff and a board and all that jazz so it’s a tighter dial on everything.
Thank you for the heads up. Agree, its a good fundraiser idea and I hope it works for them. And perhaps something like this could take place to benefit DMS.
I’m sure I will forget to check how the ebay offerings did. Please update us if you have time to follow it.
It was very nice for Catherine Cornealis to donate so many pieces. Her work is beautifully made, highly detailed, and very professional. I assume she has her own studio and her own kilns. If not, why is she at Cedars and not at DMS!
