Can we buy one of these to bend some metal?

Just think of the possibilities:

Kind of over kill for most DMS projects. But a little clever use with the Bench Press and you can achieve the same results

Keep your fingers clear of that beast. Yikes!

Very timely. I am about to try 3 bends in sheet metal with my puny 4" vice and some angle iron. What exactly is a “bench press”?

not drawn to scale

I’ve done basic folds / bends in light metals with my 20 ton hydraulic press at home.
The automated one just makes everything look easy

OK. Google gives some concept of the bench press. My new question is if we have dies for making bends in sheetmetal and where those might be located.

That 3/8x1/8 channel is going to be fun. How thick is your material?

It is just flashing from Home Depot. About 1/64" or 26-28 GA. I planned to just bend that around some 1/8 thick angle iron using a vice.

Hello all! This is my first post.

There is a company called SWAG Off-road who makes kits for the diy fabricator. They have a very impressive and capable metal brake kit at a reasonable price. It is designed to be used with one of the hydraulic power from Harbor Freight, or they also tell you how to build your own press.

I have been eyeballing that for years. I believe it does require a 20 ton HF press. I think ours is a 12 ton.

I got a hold of some i-beams that I plan on cutting down to build a press with, specifically for that brake. I need to learn how to weld first.

I have a 75 ton ‘H’ frame two speed hydraulic press I am considering loaning to the metal shop.
It is a little larger than the ‘El cheapo’ horror freight one the space currently has.

Is it stiffer than the HF one? I can’t get it to come down exactly vertically if there is any sideways loading at all.

BTW - The current one is on loan too.
