I have two rifles I’d like to part with. A Mosin Nagant and a Yugoslavian SKS. Is that sort of thing allowed here on MakerTrade? If not then feel free to delete/close this. If yes, then PM me for details.
Cheers,
Mark

Shouldn’t be a problem. We’ve even got a firearms committee that does reloading, etc. here at DMS.
I’m not aware of any rule or law that it would break.
Agree with Brian, these would be private transactions outside of the physical space.
How much are you asking for the Mosin? I remember paying something like $65 for an M44, too bad I didn’t buy a stack or even crate of them at that time.
Tony, Yes I felt the same way. They have really crept up in price. Look at texasguntrader.com and make a comparable offer I’m just in the mood to de-clutter and get rid of some stuff I’m not using, so I’ll entertain reasonable and comparable offers.
Even if they took place at DMS, I’m unaware of any law that would violate. These are long guns, which have fewer laws to deal with than handguns.
You are may right. My personal preference is the actual/physical cash for firearm transfer take place outside the building. That way it can’t be an issue. Bring it inside, inspect, etc. This is an “ask” not a “tell”.
Appreciate it.
Do we have rules on firearms in the building? I don’t see anything beyond what is in the rules and policies:
We should have rules that specify that if non-concealed carry weapons are brought into the building that they be brought in inside a carry case (not out in the open), be unloaded (including magazines), and cannot ever be loaded with live ammunition while inside the building.
This would apply to weapons being brought up for sale as well as for some simple repair work or mods such as installing triggers, 3rd party safeties, scopes, etc…
Probably wouldn’t hurt to have them relegated to Hatcher’s room as a whole, with the exception of bringing parts out for machining or repair.
This is your opinion, and Banning weapons inside DMS is not an idea shared by everyone. I do not object to a legally-carried, loaded weapon, if handled responsibly. This would cover long guns.
(edit: wow. I was a bit fast on the draw – I’ve corrected it to be a little less snarky)
I don’t either but if you don’t tell someone “don’t be stupid” then how can you tell them “you were stupid” when accidents happen?
That’s where the law comes into play. There is no difference between being inside DMS and being outside DMS.
Edit: You can call the cops if they are being stupid.
Being stupid is not a crime.
Can’t argue with you there.
Stupidity is the leading cause of winning Darwin Awards though…
I believe in firearms and the 2nd amendment. I believe in gun ownership and the right to carry. I even own my fair share of guns.
I don’t believe, however, everyone is cautious with their firearms.
Once in the desert a young soldier, who was clearly qualified to handle a weapon and clearly justified in carrying it, brought it into the tent without clearing it in the clearing barrel. He said, “He just knew it was unloaded” It discharged in the tent and “killed” a footlocker, but scared the crap out of everyone in the tent. It was simply a careless mistake, but one that could have been very costly. I’m certain there are other stories of this kind of “friendly fire”.
A second time, a Plano policeman who happened to be in the guard with me, carried his police service revolver on board the C-130 headed off to an ORI. He packed it into his duffel and thought nothing of it.
It must have been loaded and when the hammer was jarred or something it discharged in flight. It was mostly absorbed into the other equipment etc on the pallet but it got him court-marshaled none the less. (We were specifically told NOT to bring any type of weapon on the ORI).
My point is that even people who are experts at handling firearms and very knowledgeable about them can be the reason someone gets hurt or killed. The more we can reduce this kind of risk the better.

I’m actually with Raymond here. Hatchers is a great place, but there are a lot of people at DMS who would be put at risk if someone is careless with a firearm. I know there are other major hazards at DMS, but few are as deadly or as capable as a firearm at causing harm.
I think we should espouse the highest level of safety, especially when it comes to firearms. Even the gun ranges have strict rules regarding firearm management in their facility and on the range.
We do not prevent those with a CHL from entering the building armed.
Does knowledge of the firearm make it more deadly when a careless mistake happens?
To be honest, my question was merely “is it ok to offer it for sale on talk.dallasmakerspace.org trade catagory”. I would handle the transaction elsewhere.
That is far different. You cannot pull that weapon out and work on it, show it off, etc… There are laws about what you can and can’t do with a concealed weapon. It’s concealed for a reason.
Yes, you can advertise your rifle for sale here.
