Broken drill bit

I was just given a broken No. 2 HSS center drill bit to report by a member who is not on talk. He tells me he was probably running the drill press too slowly.

Thanks for reporting. Do you know what tool it was being used on? Lathe, Drill Press, or Mill?

Material being cut, was lubricant being used, etc. Will help us give some advice as to what failure mode was. Then again, sometimes they just break.

thank you I’ll add it to my list.

I don’t know anything more than it broke while being used on the drill press.

Adding to broken things… one edge finder for the Bridgeport. Totally my bad, I am admittedly an amateur machinists.

It happens. I @nicksilva usually order three at a time, Mitoyos, they are about $14 ea Most people break them when using the auto-fed instead of moving in by hand - push lever wrong way …oops.

Thanks for reporting

ouch. I don’t know if there is another. usually it ends up in one of the mill box drawers. We’ll get more. As David said it happens. You should see what happens with you spin one up at 12,000 rpm in a router.
