Bowl turning questions

What size screws should I use for the faceplate to turn a bowl on the Jet lathes at DMS? I have read that wood screws or self-threading sheet metal screws are best.

Also I am switching to traditional lathe tools from carbide cutters. Can someone meet me at DMS this week after I get off work to show me how to use the bowl gouge properly? Anytime after 6pm will work for me. Also I have a round bowl blank I would like to turn on the lathe.

I have already turned a bowl with carbide cutters and now want to try it with traditional tools.

Just tagged a couple of the regular turners I am familiar with. Hopefully that can help!

Here’s a good thread on what screws to use

I normally use 5/16" x 2" lag screws. I prefer something that is not a standard phillips head as they can strip easily.
