I would like to make a part like this. (Ignore the shaft end and look only at the tapered socket end).
It would be roughly an inch in diameter and Al 6061. None of the dimensions or angles need to be precise in the taper section. It would become a live center socket for my Taig.
Suggestions? Do we have a big honkin’ spot drill I could use for the internal taper?
There’s a half inch spot drill in the machine shop cabinet with the end mills, not sure if there are any bigger around.

Center drill with the 1/2" bit, then just use the compound slide to turn a taper. Given what your using it for shoot for abt 60 degrees

Not familiar with “Honkin”, is that a metric, English, or some other unit of measure.
At the next Machine shop meeting, I suggest we vote to buy a set of drills in 1/8th increments from from .500" ~ 1.000" This would helping in using boring bars on the mill or lathe by creating a large enough hole.
If angle isn’t critical we have a 90 degree counter sink about 1" on diameter. I demo it often in the Bridgeport class in an aluminum block. Would that work?
