Boat Life? 😖

Been there about a week or so? Isn’t this getting more than just a little bit ridiculous at this point?

Is your camera on a boat? What’s going on there.

I’d like to blame it on heat shimmer, but it wasn’t all that hot. No idea…maybe some goo on my lens? Or maybe a carbuncle got in the way?

I don’t see the problem with working on a boat if it is allowed space, allocated by logistics for a given amount of time. We need specific rules on projects and their sizes. Grant worked on his project for months and months at the space his mustang c0ckpit. Whats wrong with having 2 or 3 large projects at the space for a given allocation of time and if they are not being worked on to be removed or towed away? I don’t want makerspace to just be turning pens on the wood lathe and 3d printing.
Did he get permission from logistics? Does logistics have a certain number of parking spaces to allocate?

Nothing is supposed to be stored in the parking lot via the lease. But, we do ignore that by letting members live back there. So, I guess no big deal?

The actual verbiage from the lease is

Exhibit D - Rules and Regulations:

  1. Landlord reserves the right to designate the use of parking areas and spaces. Tenant shall not park in visitor, reserved, or unauthorized parking areas. Tenant and Tenant’s guests shall park between designated parking lines only and shall not park motor vehicles in those areas designated by Landlord for loading and unloading. Vehicles in violation of the above shall be subject to being towed at the vehicle owner’s expense. Vehicles parked overnight without prior written consent of the Landlord shall be deemed abandoned and shall be subject to being towed at vehicle owner’s expense. Tenant will from time to time, upon the request of Landlord, supply Landlord with a list of license plate numbers of vehicles owned or operated by its employees or agents.

So if we have not received prior written consent from the Landlord, we are breaking the terms of the lease. You are risking DMS’s everything for your personal project or living arrangements.

Also the City of Carrollton is watching us. From https://dallasmakerspace.org/wiki/Board_of_Directors_Meeting_20190311_Special_Meeting.

20190311 Special Board Expansion Issues
Convened at 7:05 PM CST, Interactive Room
Attending: Kris, Anderson, Steve Blanchard, David Kessinger, Luke Strickland (telephonically). Absent
Chuck Barber. Quorum required is 3, 4 present, Quorum Met.
Announcements

  1. Notice of Violation from City of Carrollton sent to DMS dated 4-6-2019 giving 10 days notice from mailing
(4-6-19) to have all vehicles with people living residing in them to cease. Individuals have been notified.
Notice to DMS will be posted.

The current board seems to be ignoring the seriousness of not really addressing this. It is beyond certain DMS members being irresponsible and eventually falls on the board.

I agree with everything you said. I also understood, before this thread, everything @Lampy pointed out. If we owned our own building and didn’t share parking with other tenants, or even if we had parking spots assigned for our specific use under the lease (one possible solution to explore, BTW) this would be a completely different discussion.

I was not aware of lease rules.

When I was on the board before we had to assure the Landlord we were taking care of their interest as well as DMS’s. It is up to every board to make sure we are good neighbors. When we own a property in the future we can then do large outdoor projects like aquaponics, sculpture, tiny homes etc. I really look forward to those possibilities!

I also agree with your sentiment here. But at what point is the message sent that you can basically just leave your stuff at the space indefinitely and tie up space that others could also be making. Note that I don’t use the back work shop area, except to teach, because its always super cluttered. I will cite the guy building the massive shelves out of plywood who has been taking up a whole table for about a month now. But what’s defined as reasonable? as you say we need rules on this. Overnight? sure. A couple of days? yeah ok. A week? might be my tolerable limit. a month? the welcome is overstayed at that point IMO. And don’t get me started on

That took up, what, 2 months? Should I remind folks that we should not be using noxious chemicals that require ventilation as to not, oh I don’t know, expose our fellow makers to cancer causing vapors? I was there the night he epoxy coated that cockpit. Ask me if the bay doors were opened. I’ll save you the trouble, they were not. There was not a single part of that warehouse that didn’t reek of chemicals and there was no ventilation being used. It should have been done outside. Its an issue of courtesy and safety for your fellow makers.

Edit- wait I cant say coc k pit now? when did this start?

So there are those that believe we cuss too much on TALK and recently, maybe as of yesterday there was a filtering plugin added to the forum for possible bad words. Wasn’t my doing, just was told of it last evening.

Thanks for the info. I guess I’m fine with it so long as you also give folks the option to un-censor if they want. Kind of like when a post is flagged and hidden. I wonder if that’s an option somewhere.

But c0ckpit is a legit word. As is D!ck as a name. in fact a we have a D!ck at the space and he took one of my classes Sunday. Really nice guy.

Yeah,
I’d just like a “I can handle words” option so I don’t have to deal with it at all.

The boat trailer was being worked on last night. It has a new axle and wiring. The boat is back on the trailer.

Not hardly… It was brought in late last week.

Damn Klingons.
