Blacksmithing Trailer in the Back Parking Lot

First, I want to apologize for taking up six parking spots in the back parking lot. Second, it was the best way to ensure that we would have space for the blacksmithing classes on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Lastly, this class and the necessary reservations were approved by the DMS board. @Julie-Harris

We are having a world class blacksmith coming to teach three classes to both DMS members and members of the North Texas Blacksmith Association. We are charging $150 per person per class and the proceeds after expenses will be split between NTxBA and DMS . We are going to host him here at DMS. He lives in California now and this is his next to last time to teach a class. His name is Mark Aspery and you can find more info on him here: Home

Blacksmithing chair @raceman1590 , @JohnK and I appreciate your patience. The trailer will be removed on Friday evening so the spots will be available next week.

There are actually two open spots next to the trailer which you could use today through next Tuesday but please leave them open for our classes. There will be a dozen students in these classes.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

I wanted to give everyone an update. Today was our first class and it was awesome. We had 8 students some came from as far away as Colorado, far West Texas and Grandbury. Mark did a great job teaching everyone how to make a fluxing spoon and a gate latch. Both required forge welding and each was really interesting to do.

The news though is that we don’t need the parking spots after all. After talking with Mark and Fred, we decided we could hold the classes indoors with fewer forges and anvils. It required sharing but it worked out fine. Furthermore, we relocated the trailer early this morning so all of the parking spots are now available again. Thank you all for your forbearance.

We may need to use the area immediately in from of the parked trailers tomorrow and Friday, but this will not take up any parking spaces.

The North Texas Blacksmith trailer has been moved to its home and is no longer at DMS.

Thanks everyone for your understanding of our use of the platform parking area. We had three great days of trainings and making our gate latches, stags head hinges and basket handled fireplace pokers.

A number of students who were not Makerspace members got to tour our amazing makerspace. All were very impressed.

We also received some great tips on how we could make our blacksmithing shop even better.
