Auto Lift Question

This may have to do with struts (back) vs shocks (front), or general lack of equity in weight distribution (engine in front is much heavier), but I’ve lifted my SUV here many times and never noticed that front wheels leave ground significantly before back wheels. Is this typical/normal?

That’s pretty normal. It means you have more suspension travel (“droop”) in the rear than the front. Probably because you have coil springs in the back and some sort of IFS up front, but it’s true on a lot of vehicles.
