I’m teaching my first class this Sunday and I need to take attendance. Is there a template somewhere? I can make one, that’s fine, but what info should I ask for? and to whom do I send it after the class?
If I missed it in the wiki I apologize. I could not find any more detail other than “need to take attendance”.
From now on, I think I’m going to use a Google Form and have a 'space laptop for people to sign-in. That way I can keep track of classes and I don’t have to read hand-writing. I never really saw the need for a sign-in sheet but just so I could tell how many people showed up to the class.
I’ve always gotten name/email/member (y/n) and remind them to sign waiver if non-member if they’ve never done it.
That being said, I’ve kept them just in case but never needed to turn one in. I do tend to use for my record keeping and jot down later when I filled out honorarium and later that check was received before filing. Also notes on who if it was a tool training class that session.
I think with the new system, the idea is getting every student to register and that’s your attendance sorta (doesn’t account for no-shows).
That being said, my CYA reflex is incredibly strong, and even if I’ve never turned it in, and I get folks registering, I doubt I’ll be able to make myself quit doing a paper copy too
As far as form…there’s those fancy-schmancy cool ones @uglyknees made for us in CA. But I’ve might have been known to start/scribble anything handy. Literally a paper towel got passed around and signed a couple classes back. ~innocent look~
I assumed I had to turn in an attendance sheet for honorarium to someone. I’ll start with a paper sign in and see how that works. I plan on having regular classes so we’ll see. Thanks for feedback all!
All joking aside about the form of/if sign-in sheet…check out that big pinned honorarium thread…
IMPORTANT
The KEY new change you need to be SURE to do is get at least three folks REGISTERED via the button on the calendar event. THAT’S how they’re tracking honorarium payout now.
As teachers, we have to train students to start doing that for any class.
And right now it has to be done prior to the start of class (should be changing to allow during class hopefully soon, since folks may not be used to doing ahead). My fiber folks never had to do that for my open and ongoing class so we’re spreading the word.
That’s another reason for paper during the transition. In case you have well attended but crappy registration before that ability (sign up after class start) before folks learn to do that.
@AlexRhodes
THIS is the scenario I was thinking we seriously need to very soon be able to sign up folks after class starts, at least during course of class time wise. I personally get a lot of drop-ins, but at least I have reasonable communication with my folks via our fb group, but a teacher without that instructing a random class with a group of folks that may not be used to signing up ahead of time because it’s not limited-size class…if honorariums are based on that, we at least need the ability to sign folks up at the start of class rather than worry about having to fight for an honorarium that we had a well-attended class but crappy pre-registration response
