Like so many of us, I come from a family of makers. My sister Sheila lives in a suburb of Atlanta and has been listening to me and my son share about DMS for three years now. She’s the sort of person who makes things happen. She was so moved by stories of what is being made here at DMS - both art and community - that she told others and helped form a steering committee to establish one of their own. This was on the Roswell City Council agenda for yesterday’s meeting.
Approval for the Mayor and/or City Administrator to sign a contract with Atlanta Maker Alliance for a Makers Space at the vacant Fire Station #4 at 1601 Holcomb Bridge Road and approval of a Budget Amendment BA35015850 -01-22-18 in the amount of $112,550. Presented by Michael Fischer, Deputy City Administrator
Today she posted this update on Facebook:
Well the Atlanta Makers Alliance scored big last night. The City voted to in favor of $200K in repairs to an old firehouse station and then to sign it over in lease to us. I guess this is the start of it then. As soon as the repairs happen (will take several months), we will be ready to open up. As the Director of Membership my role kicks in now. Crazy!
Wanted to share the news with our Makers, who planted a seed far away.
