I have a small pottery wheel that I’ve yet to use. I need to get some bats but looking at the wheel I noticed there’s no notches. Does this mean I cannot use bats on this wheel?
Also, it has a splash pan but it’s pretty shallow. Any ideas if this is deep enough to work?
We have used one similar to that one. Worked really good. You cannot use a bat unless you drill holes and add them. We chose just to throw without a bat and learned to take pieces off like Simon Leach does. Or you could put clay on the wheel and attach bat on top of that.

The splash pan is deep enough, unless you get really crazy. The clay should slip straight off the wheel, and the pan will catch that. If you get some higher splashing, you might hang a shower curtain.
And, you don’t want the pan higher than that, because you’re reaching in to throw the clay and it could get in the way.
True…although the one we had was just as messy as our brent. We did have our walls protected with clear shower curtains too, just to help easy clean up.
