Will anyone be in the woodshop today that can help me get started on the lathe with an extremely simple project?
Would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Liz

Liz The lathes require that you have taken a Lathes Basics class. Have you taken that yet?
No I have not. Is there one coming up soon?
With the recent changes in the calendar system, it doesn’t look like anything has been added for lathe basics. Let me see what I can do about getting one arranged. What project are you wanting to do?
It’s extremely simple, apparently. I need to lathe a cone from a 4" diameter, 3" tall round piece of wood, don’t know what
type of wood it is. It’s fairly soft, a bit harder than balsa which I got from Joanne’s fabrics. Actually I laminated it from 3 round
wood bases with wood glue. I would attach some sort of arbor. It’s for a personal project that is time sensitive. Do you think someone
might be able to help me this evening? I do intend to take the full class. Thank you.
If it’s time sensitive, you will probably need to find someone to do it for you. I can swing by around 7 and do it if you’re unable to find someone before then.
Thank you! I will be there at 6:30. What type of post should I attach to place in the collet? Can it hold stainless steel?
I am also interested in a lathe basics class, just in case you need a show of hands for the next class.
Liz everything I have seen done in the woodshop is straight wood. Let me take a look before you attach post if possible.
Thanks will keep in mind.
I already attached a wooden arbor. It may or may not work. Fingers crossed. Thx!
Me, too, if it’s on the weekend.
Liz, sorry we missed each other. If you need assistance another evening feel free to reach out to me.
JJ - I ended up at the space early and Patrick helped me. Should have sent you a note. My apologies.
To those that would like training, there should be a class for potentially next week. Keep an eye on the calendar.
Hi, all: notice the woodshop is going to be down next week for installing new stuff/reconfiguring etc. Since I’ll be helping with that, .I’ll get one on the schedule for the 30th for sure. Will update you when it is available.
Submitted class next Sat, July 30th…may take a day or two to show up on calendar. Will be from 10 - 12. Usually hold it out in the workspace area, so I don’t have to scream over dust collector.
