Calling all artists and artistic types or curious souls who will click a link! The city of Lewisville is commissioning a painted crosswalk. This is an opportunity to create joy in the city along with creating an opportunity for paid work. Proposals are due April 7th so you need to be mindful of the deadline. Pays $2k and has opportunity for additional pay to keep it up in following years. This is a public post so you can share as you please.
TL/DR:
Lewisville is offering a chance to paint and maintain a 6ft x 55ft cross walk for 3 years for a total payment of $4000. The city will provide suitable paint in Red, Yellow, Blue, Black, and White (it is mixable to make other colors). You will be paid $2000 on selection, $1000 on first year repaint, and $1000 on second year repaint. They are asking for geometric/simplistic designs. This works out to $6.06 per square foot painted first year and $3.03 per square foot to repaint twice. You will also be required to carry liability insurance paid for by the stipend (no clue the required coverage amount or cost).
My two cents, it seems a really low price for the amount of labor even for a simple design. Who knows what insurance is being require, I would bet the insurance falls away or is never purchased. Because what artist willing to work this cheap knows anything about insurance. The paints used for this kind of work are typically a 2 part epoxy paint that isn’t the nicest to work with.
