Hey guys… I apologize if this is spammy but I wanted to let you know about an art show I’ll be in, showing mainly gocupi (a DMS kickstarter success) stuff. JRyan McCutcheon and Darcy Neal (both DMS members) also have a space at this show. Sorry for the spam but… my first art show…
Those of you who know me well know that I’m kind of a subvert the system, troll the prole kind of guy. Even when I put my heart and soul into something tangible and physical, aesthetically pleasing… I’m taking the piss out of something. But this looks to be an actually cool thing, put on by an actually cool guy who when speaking to him about what I’d like to do… he actually laughed but diplomatically steered me away from it; perhaps this is not the venue to subvert from people who actually want to make a living with art, while I - perhaps unpopularly - want to democratize “art”, but only because my personal belief is that creativity is the “art”, and skilled delivery is the “craft”.
It’s funny… for decades I kinda dismissed Warhol and considered him mostly a talentless prat. Then, when describing my own opinions and goals, found myself having to consider that Warhol was coming from the same place as I am. (Or close to it anyway… I consider the dada movement as close to the point on conflating perception and reality as anything, and my art heroes are Paul Jordan Smith http://hoaxes.org/archive/permalink/the_disumbrationist_school_of_art and Pierrre Brassau http://hoaxes.org/archive/permalink/pierre_brassau_monkey_artist , naturally) The Factory makes sense. The artists creates, the craftsmen implement. Why the f**k not? It doesn’t always have to be the same person, though we may marvel at someone like DaVinci. But what are we missing out on because Joe Blow or Joan Blown doesn’t have the hand-eye coordination to put thought to canvas? I digress… I could (and should) write a manifesto.
Anyway, come out and see me, and what the 15 real artists who are not me have to show.
