Ardupilot DFW club idea

I’m not sure if this is against the rules. I figured this would be a good way that we can all learn from each other as a group. something called Ardupilot. It’s not just about learning to fly RC/UAV. It teaches people on how to properly install the hardware such as flight controller, gps, air speed sensor etc. From an RC car, quad, helicopter, plane. Once you properly connect the hardware to the RC/Drone itself. You then use a platform called mission planner where you program the RC/UAV where to fly and safely land on its own etc. The reason I bring this up on here. I know the process of this can be expensive overall and overwhelming because there is a lot to learn about this. I figured this would be a good way to make friends that has the passion about Ardupilot that are willing to learn when someone who cannot afford the RC/Drone or the hardware or just having a hard time understanding it. we can all get together every other Saturday for a few hours. from learning the basics to the more advanced. what are your thoughts about this idea or whole concept?

The history of this at DMS can be found by Putting “drone sig” into the forum search tool.
What seems to be common in the posts is interest has come and gone, no one steps to teach and no one steps up to be SIG leader.

What a SIG? I’m guessing no one seem to step up because. You need a few people to commit and get serious about it if not, that person is just left alone. With his hands up in the air.

Not sure what it takes to start a ardupilot drone group. I know few years from now companies would need more people. And the job market desperately needs people like us to have these skills.

Could start a FB DFW group, create a discord, YouTube channel, meetings and the list goes on. It a lot of work for one person to take.

The first step is learning the software and building a drone it can be from flying, land or under water. Then learning to troubleshoot and repair.

What a SIG?

SIG is an acronym for Special Interest There’s a Wiki page that explains it better than I can.

It takes people. My suggestion would be to organize small few folks who are interested and start a project! You can post on Talk or Discord and see who has interest, then give them something to be interested in! Regular meetings, group projects and classes go a long way to building up a cohesive group.

Training, classes, group builds and projects are all a great way to get people engaged! Perhaps you could host a class on assembling the drone?

start a ardupilot drone group.

A suggestion I have would be to broaden the topic, perhaps to radio control in general. A broader topic can help draw in more folks, and limit y’all less.

Thanks for sharing that.

I don’t have any experience in ardupilot. i have notice it is costly project. I would like to have a group that is in the DFW area. this way we can all support each other. I am in the PX4 and Ardupliot. I have notice there isn’t much help. You might get someone reply to a question. But overall your on your own in that discord.

what do you mean by radio control ? you mean like hobbyist in the RC field. you can but some seem to only stick with RC and away from the drones. RC people like to have full control of their RC i have talk to some. Some say it take away the fun for something to fly on its own.

soon i will buy me a VTOL Heewing to try upload the firmware on it. so i can fly it somewhere with a lot of space to practice. just because it the only thing i can afford for now
