I’ve worked my way through the remainder of my bucket of silicone and am deciding whether to go in for another one. I have some projects that will use it but not the whole gallon, but if more people are still wanting to take the silicone mold making class then I am sure we can get through another bucket before the stuff expires. How many people were interested but hadn’t had a chance to come to one yet?
I’m interested infood and ca dysiljco e molds
I’d be interested. Depends on the timing though
I would be interested in attending a mold-making class.
I would be interested
what timing works best for you?
Any time Wednesday - Saturday are best for me in the near future.
Basically any weekday after about 4:30
Definitely! I just rejoined so this is perfect timing - wanting to learn life casting, eventually. Best days for me are Tuesdays and Saturdays.
Life casting is a much more involved process than a simple mold. Between talent prep, multiple layers of silicone, plaster bandage mother mold, and removal it is most of an afternoon.
Yes the life casting classes we did on pumpkins (which is way easier than on a real human) took 4-6 hours. It’ll be an entire Saturday class when it happens. I am planning to do it sometime soonish though now that COVID is looking a lot better
If you need a second set of hands, let me know.
For sure, that would be very helpful. I’ll DM you in a bit to coordinate
I’d love to take more mold-making classes. I’d love to have a set of molds for dice.
My mold making skills are very rudimentary, and I’d love to work with someone who knows what they’re doing
I’m mostly just interested in a little bit of workshopping of my existing mold making attempts. I’m trying to copy furby parts for an animatronic project but the casts are coming out messy / inconsistent.
I know some of what I did wrong, not using a stiff / strong enough container. I believe I should degas the silicone after pouring to ensure it gets into every crevice?
I have a couple different viscocity levels of silicone, I assume thinner is better?
Any other magic tips I’m missing?
Degassing is going to depend on product you are using and your pot life time.
For example: I recently was using Mold Star 16 Fast from smooth on. It has a pot life of 6 minutes. On smooth on’s site it states it doesn’t need to be degassed. With only a 6 minute pot life you’d be hard pressed to mix a and b throughly, degass, and pour your mold before it started setting up.
Pour as thin a ribbon of your molding compound (silicone, alginate, whatever) as you can in a spot away from your part. Slow it to flow to your part and self level. That will reduce air bubbles being trapped.
Happy to help if you want to work on one up at space sometime.
