I’m in the market for a medium/large helium tank.
I know they rent them but sometimes this place can drum up some interesting bits and pieces.
I’ve also seen them on craigslist but I nothing local.
Lemme know.
If you buy a used tank make sure to check the shoulder of the tank. You’ll see a bunch of numbers and a date or dates, make sure the last date is less than 5 years or tank will have to be tested and they won’t take in exchange. Also the color will determine what has been put in it and what they’ll put in it.
If you buy a used tank, make sure the neck ring is blank, as that is where the owners name is normally in raised lettering at and may prevent you from filling/swapping the tank if it has someone else’s name on it. The last time I bought a used tank, I took it to Cylinder Services in Dallas and they chem washed the tank, installed a different valve, and hydrotested it for around $50 and it took a week or so. I don’t know the normal fill pressure for helium tanks, but I do know that CO2 tanks are only rated to a working pressure of 1800psi, which is probably lower than a helium tank, so definitely watch the tank pressure rating when looking at a tank to convert to helium use.
As far as tank color, while ideally it follows the above chart, don’t put too much stock in it, as people/companies repaint their tanks with whatever is handy.
Also, looking at my pricing from airgas, the fill cost for a size 200 tank of balloon grade helium is around $135 plus any taxes/fees.
Thank you guys - I’m trying to become a balloon billionaire. So far - day one - I’m not exactly at the finish line. I found a tank but I didn’t check the markings - I was WAYYYYYY to busy cussing and busting balloons.
The one I was using (and will eventually get) has the nozzle and the whole regulator thing. I appreciate you guys looking out for me and my billionaire ballon bizzznach.
