Any suggestion to separate 2 pieces of metal pipe

I have 2 pieces of metal pipe (in rectangle shape). One is slightly larger in diameter and the other is slightly smaller. The smaller one is inserted in the bigger one. So, the 2 pipes extend each other. Hopefully, you can imagine the picture as I don’t know how to include a photo with this post.

How could I possibly separate them? I have tried WD-40. I have no way to firmly hold both pieces of the pipe.

Appreciate any suggestion. Is any tool available at DMS that may help?

Thank you
Lee

Dip the inner one in liquid nitrogen so it contracts while also heating the outer to expand?

Assuming they are strong enough to handle a little pressure: Cap the larger one. Run compressed air in the smaller one. Seal well enough to get pressure. You might need to jiggle a bit.

@jast , is liquid nitrogen available at DMS?

No,

It isn’t going to be pipe. It would be tubing. Do you have dimensions on it? You can put it in the vice & pull it apart. Another option is to press them apart with the arbor press in machine shop.

Thank you @TBJK . You are right, tube is better term. Thank you for the correction.

If you use the vise as @tbjk suggested, you could cut apart a soda can with tin snips and wrap your tubing with the resulting sheet metal to reduce scarring from the vise. If it matters …

Ah! Good catch. I assumed ‘rectangle shape’ meant the arrangement of pipes.

Thank you @John_Marlow
