@Team_Metal_Shop - Does anyone know if the new metal being stored is for sale by the door to the Metal Shop? Or is just for members storage needs?
Please do NOT act on my authority (I have NONE), but as far as I know, it’s free-for-all. The exception, possibly, is “committee storage”, which would need a conversation with Chuck to clarify (actually, that would be the way to approach all this, rather than listening to me…)
There is NO storage for members outside of the storage area/system (i.e. pallets and shelves in the main shop space with storage cards). Despite these pieces having names on them, they are NOT legitimate under the current system, and frankly, appear to have been long since forgotten, since most of that has been there for YEARS.
@dallasmagna has said before that that material is free for the taking. As Andrew said, no personal storage. There is however some steel that is there for Smithing. So that is obviously off limits.

There is a stick of angle iron that is about shoulder height jutting out I’ve been wanting to chop in half every time I walk in there… I think that’s getting cut next time I’m in there…lol.
Hi Owen,
I cannot speak for all of the metal on the rack by the door, but the second “shelf” down is for Blacksmithing Committee use only. Please do not take or use that without asking John Haskins, Mitch or myself. At one time there was a sign written on blue tape marking it as such but that has likely been torn down.
There is scrap metal in buckets by the forges that you are free to use and there is a big box in the corner to the right of the welding area that is for scrap metal and you are free to take what you need/want out of that.
I can’t speak to who has metal on the other 3 shelves of the rack by the door.
If you have specific metal needs, there are many metal yards and scrap yards around the area.
Hope that helps.
Regards,
Sarah - the Other Smith
Instead of starting this anew, I’m curious if any of the angle iron could be purloined to start working on the Brewing Cart. Looking at that 1.5/1.5 angle iron.
