I’ve been an active competitor and also a RSO (Range Safety Officer) at the Dallas Pistol Club for a couple years now.
Is there any interest in a presentation and Q&A session in what happens at a match, what gear is needed/expected, rules to be followed, etc?
No real guns or ammo would be used in the presentation. I would prefer to use a deactivated airsoft pistol (since I can most accurately demonstrate the various manipulations needed), but can substitute a fully nonfunctional/firing toy if required/requested.
I think I’d be interested. My brother had a great time on the MIT pistol team (one of the only sports we were nationally competative in) and did well in various competitions. So that’s something I wish I had tried as well.
Edit: To be fair, I have minimal experience with firearms so this is probably something I couldn’t meaningfully participate in. But I am curious.
I can cover IDPA & Metal Challenge style matches, as well as .22LR benchrest rifle.
Note that my knowledge is based on the way matches are run at the DPC, so matches at other ranges may/will have variation on exact rules depending on their location, physical facilities, etc.
Paul, it is quite ironic that you just posted this inquiry. A good friend, Paul Weatherall, who is also a DMS member, is a member of the Dallas Pistol Club (DPC). He just invited me to the DPC Pistol Contest this weekend.
Both he and I would be interested in your class.
I’ll probably be at DPC at 8:30AM this Saturday. Will you be there?
I attended yesterday’s pistol match at the Dallas Pistol Club with my friend Paul. Paul, who is also a DMS member, participated as a competitor but I was a just there as an observer. I learned a lot about the contest process and especially about DPC safety.
Afterwards, Paul and I did some practicing ourselves. Paul is a Range Officer, and helped me through the contest peculiarities.
I shot my Glock 22 40 cal, which is brand new, for the first time and a 92f 9mm Beretta which I have owned and fired many times. I have shot thousands of rounds from a 92f in the USAF.
Both are great guns. I feel DPC is an outstanding range for pistols and safety is paramount there.
