Antibody Test After Vaccine

I know a number of members have been vaccinated. Has anyone gotten an antibody test a few weeks after the vaccine to see how it turns out?

People are already getting the second round?

Some healthcare workers are. I’m not a healthcare worker.

Healthcare workers just started getting the second dose this week.

That Venn diagram has to have a super-tiny overlap zone at this point in time.

Geez guys. Stop making this complicated. Several members were in trials. Never said anything about a second dose.

I was just wondering if anyone that got any dose at any time and then got an antibody test.

If you don’t know, then pretty sure it wasn’t you I was asking.

Not trying to make it complicated, I was just surprised that there were might be enough people who had completed the vaccine (“after the vaccine” in your original post) to post on a relatively small message board.

The jury is still out on whether the vaccine will generate a positive antibody test:

If your body develops an immune response—the goal of vaccination—there is a possibility you may test positive on some antibody tests. Antibody tests indicate you had a previous infection and that you may have some level of protection against the virus. Experts are currently looking at how COVID-19 vaccination may affect antibody testing results.

If you donate blood at Carter Blood Care they will test your blood for the antibodies for free. At least they did this two months ago. Give them a call first. Other blood donation centers may do the same thing.

American Red Cross will also test blood donations for antibodies as of a couple of months ago. ( I plan to give again after I get the vaccine but by then others will have the answer to this question. )

A number of members participated in trials and I think at least one was considering “unblinding” himself using an antibody test.

I got a vaccine yesterday and it feels like someone code-red-ed my shoulder

@Russell_Crow

Yeah – it was Russell. He thinks he might have been in the no-vaccine part of the trial, as they found no antibodies when he went and had those checked. Although, not all antibody checks are accurate…

And (because I’m not well-versed on this technology/science) are we sure the rna version is actually going to produce antibodies? Or something slight different?

In different news, 2 (maybe 3) of my health-care-worker friends have gotten their first dose, one only yesterday. No 2nd doses yet. They’ve promised to keep us updated, though.

I just asked my nephew about this (I was curious but have no desire to be tested or have the vaccine) - he had to get the vaccine due to being a surgeon. His reply is below:

Would also be unable to tell if antibody was from prior asymptomatic infections vs vaccination.

I figured that much would be true. I’m reasonably certain that I haven’t had much opportunity to become infected, asymptomatically or not.

Did he indicate whether he thought the antibody test would go positive due to vaccine?

He did not, but I will contact him again this weekend and ask.

Thanks. He may not know - I think it’s still mostly unknown right now. But perhaps he’s had an antibody test.
