I need to cut some 1.5” square tubing (16-gauge steel) and was wondering if there was any guidance on how to cut 45-degree angles with the horizontal bandsaw. I read the user manual, but I wanted to see if there were any specific instructions or best-practices the community could share.
Thanks!
In my personal opinion, on tubing that small, I would use a grinder with a cutoff wheel and a speed square.
In my experience, you get a better cut that way with less clean up/straightening than with the horizontal bandsaw. At least with the old one, I haven’t gotten to play with the new one yet.
Makes sense. I’ll probably try that at the house first. I feel like every time I cut tubing on a band saw the blade catches and I end up spending more time than it’s worth just getting the machine to run.
The cold saw in machine shop does a good job cutting miters.
The fence on the horizontal Wellsaw can be adjusted to 45 degrees, make sure the part is long enough on both saws to be fully clamped, use a slow cut with material that thin and please dont rest the weight of the saw on one tooth of the blade, you can lower the horizontal bandsaw head close to the part to check your cut line but dont let it touch the part until the blade is moving.
If the part is not fully clamped it can chatter and strip the teeth off the blade
