AMSAT 2017 Symposium

I just got back from the annual AMSAT Symposium, and it was great this year! The conference was held in Reno, NV at the Silver Legacy resort/casino.

Many interesting presentations were given on various aspects of amateur satellite work, including construction and operation.

The oldest living member of the original AMSAT crew, Bill Tynan (W3XO), kicked it off for us:

Ray Roberge (WA1CYB) discussed frequency calibration of SDRs w/o your own GPS reference:

A group from the Philippines presented development of satellite ground stations on a shoestring budget:

Peter Gülzow, of AMSAT-DL, provided us an update on the 1st ever geostationary amateur payload, hitching a ride on a commercial satellite:

(Unfortunately, being geostationary, North America is not in it’s footprint. :frowning:)
