Alex representing DMS at the whitehouse

So I found this link late via make mag but you can watch the recording. I haven’t watched it yet as I’m at work. I’m just posting as is. We should all be proud of this moment and also excited for @AlexRhodes who gets to show people what this place is all about.

(It was at 9a this morning) should be listed

Alex got to introduce himself at (about) 1:48:48 of the streaming. He was allowed to choose three words, and he chose “Prototype, Educate, Inspire”.

Tres’ cool ! How exciting!

Anxious to hear all the “best practices” and ideas that were shared.

I’m hoping he scores us either grant money or maybe some declassified tech from DARPA.

I have written many grant applications for my clients (many successful) and one thing to be aware of is that grants almost always have strings attached. We need to all know what the fine print says before we accept such largess.

One of the major points in this video was that the Fed’s motivation is primarily related to STEM and its ability to educate children. If grants had requirements for involving children that would be a potential problem. After all lets remember just how much effort the space is having to do to meet the requirements for the Clock Kids Scholarship program. But this is only one of the potential issues. Perhaps the biggest would be having a detailed audit performed. Most of the organizations I have know that have received government grants (and major private sector ones) have had to have a detailed audit of both the books as well as the policies and procedures. The latter has been the focus of many of the issues I have raised since becoming a member. As we stand we would not pass such an audit.

Walter, I was joking and thought the DARPA reference covered that aspect.

Okay, sorry. Both a DARPA project and grants were mentioned in the video, which is why I chimed in.

Apparently one space had a crowd funded project from a piece of intellectual property from a DARPA research project…
