Air brush questions

I know we don’t do it this way … but is it possible to run an airbrush from a “standard” workshop air compressor? (assuming it has a pressure regulator). Where would one get the fittings to downsize from the 1/4" compressor fittings to the 1/8" airbrush fittings?

It’s not that I’m particularly opposed to buying a special-purpose compressor. I just don’t want to allocate the real estate to one more special-purpose item.

EDIT: Let me clarify. I don’t mean a DMS workshop air compressor with 125 PSI. I mean a home workshop few gallon pancake air compressor.

Yep it’s possible. Just make sure it has a good vapor trap!

Edit, here is one adapter that might reduce ok.

Those usually run in the 125psi range, too. The difference is in their flow capability, rather than pressure capability.

And of course, you need a good regulator (reliable down to the desired pressures) and good drier/filter/deoiler.

But yeah, there’s no reason you can’t do that. Not that I ever have…

Yes if the pressure is regulate down, they don’t use much pressure or volume.

Air brush compressors are very small, portable and quiet. We have at least two and maybe three. A roll of airline hose weights more and is bulkier. I would plan airline drops for air brushes - they are too portable, if an airline is near, then they can use it, but they then have to find a regulator that has the coupling or right sized threaded nipples for the air brush hose.

Thanks. I was asking about using one at home.

They can get a really inexpensive one at HF. The regulator is most important for fine adjusts. I think you will find the convenience is well worth a few bucks.

Michael’s was having sales on their badger compressors. Quite. Portable. I got a real nice at a great price. They even let me use my 40% off sale price. It’s been awhile but it may be worth a look if still needed.
