Affinity Designer: Great alternative to Illustrator

I just recently bought Affinity Designer after hearing quite a bit of praise about it from the design community.

I am a graphic designer and have been testing Affinity Designer as a permanent replacement to Illustrator in my workflow. I’ve been testing it for about two weeks, basically only using Illustrator if an Illustrator file is required. I’ve found it to have just about every feature that Illustrator has, much better in certain executions of tools. Amazing grid tool, especially for those who need isometric, dimetric, oblique or trimetric grids. Also exports to PDF, EPS, SVG, PSD (and other non-vector formats).

For those who may not want to pay for a Creative Cloud membership, it’s definitely worth checking out. Link.

First I’m hearing of this, but the demo looked cool. Much of this is already in Illustrator, but can’t beat that price. I’ll take it for a swim and thanks for the suggestion. I hope a competitor like this pushes illustrator to make some much needed improvements. They have had lack luster updates for years now.

WHAT THE WHAT!!!

So I looked into it, and noticed some comments on the app store… I would be weary of putting my whole workflow into this product. It looks cool, the video sells the hell out of it, but it sounds like they are not taking the development of the software seriously and the updates are slow and are not worth it… (im just reading the comments, so I have no experience with it)…

There’s a 15 day free trial, so try it out before you make the purchase! It was a no-brainer for me after trying it.

It’s OS X only? For $49 it looks like a decent illustrator alternative, but as a non-graphic designer PC user, I’ll use inkscape for free.
