Advice on spot welding thicker nickel strip

I need to spot weld some thicker nickel strip but everything I’ve tried including the spot welder at the space can’t hack it. Any ideas? I need to weld at least 0.2mm if not thicker. Thanks

Have you tried the resistance welder in the metal shop? It’s probably too powerful but it can be dialed back quite a bit.

Failing that TIG might be an option depending on what exactly you’re welding and how bad overpen would be.

How firmly are you applying pressure?

I haven’t used it myself, but I have heard reports that battery spot welders actually don’t work well with too much contact pressure. It reduces the needed resistance too far.

Tig welding will do what you are looking for. Basically you will recess the tungsten flush or just inside the cup and hold it to the spot to weld at very low amps.
