Just about done with underglazing this bisqued piece. I want the end result to have a glossy clear glaze coat on top of the underglaze. Should I do the clear glaze coat now or wait and see the results of the underglaze? And then glaze on top and send it through a second time? Any suggestions are appreciated.
Bisque fire it again and then you can clear glaze it
From my experience with underglaze, either option will work - can’t go wrong really. As Jess said, bisque fire again is maybe safer option as it might show some defect but almost all of the time my underglazed piece comes out exactly like it went in and I really only see a big change after the glaze firing where the colors tend to darken or become more vibrant but any unevenness in application comes out also. I typically bisque a second time if I’m doing some layering scheme and I want to “set” a layer of underglaze to prevent it from interacting/blending with a layer applied over it.
Thanks all, I’ll do just that. Hopefully I’ll be able to see if there are any things I’ve painted that I don’t like so I can fix it.
