I’d like to dispose of the music CDs and movie DVDs I’ve accumulated over the years:
I know Half Price Books (HPB) will process the lot and offer a lowball price, and I am also aware of Discogs, which is sort of an eBay style platform for selling this kind of stuff, i.e. will provide a platform and poker a sale for ~(8-10)% of the sale, but then there is quite a bit of drudgery to get all the titles loaded to the site, as well as manage the shipping and whatever on the back end of any transaction.
Do other, better (?) options exist? a.k.a. what would you do?
Obviously, if anyone here wants to make an offer for the whole kit-n-kaboodle, or a significant portion thereof (e.g. just all the DVDs, or all of the CDs), I am open to it, but that is not the main gist of the post.
Another option is to consider donating them to the Plano Public Library. They might want them and if they can not use them may sale them in their friends of the library fundraiser.
I started by looking looking up each of my CD’s on Amazon to see what had value. Probably 90% were virtually worthless so I just donated them to Goodwill. Other 10% I put aside to list on Amazon (which of course I haven’t gotten around to doing yet). The 10% that were worth something were typically out of print and/or an obscure band or genre.
If you end up deciding to sell them to Half-Price, may I suggest selling them instead to a smaller independent used bookstore like Recycled Books in Denton? Either way there isn’t much money in them but I like helping the smaller shops. I live in Denton and would be happy to facilitate this and pass 100% of what they pay on to you.
Thanks…I definitely agree with helping smaller shops and business! If I end up going that route, I’ll let you know, although the occasional saunter up to Denton isn’t such a bad thing for me sometimes.
There is also lucky dog books which is here in Oak Cliff and over in East Dallas as a small chain that has struggled quite a bit over the last year. I don’t know whether you would get as much but they might appreciate them more than half price also one thing some people have found out on selling books to Half Price not all half price will give
Just sent a PM. I am interested in adding your collection to mine. Everytime I have tried to sell bulk lots of media lately I get stupidly lowball offers like 50 cents per DVD. I prefer having physical media instead of streaming.
