I have been fighting with an image to make a usable picture. I have AI but loose quite a bit of detail. I tried in Inkscape with the same results. any ideas on how to clean up a path on this pic?
I’m no expert, but with as detailed as this image is, I would just recreate it in Inkscape rather than fighting with all the clean up.
I have no experience in doing this, but will make a few suggestions.
Is the original image is a .jpg or other file format that can be edited in a photo editor?
- Get rid of the gray
- Raise the contrast
- Sharpen using hi pass fltr, etc.
Hope this helps.
What are you wanting to do with the image? CNC or Laser work?
Laser to make it about 20 inches wide
Curved lines have a bad case of the “jaggies”. Needs more resolution - a lot more. And less jpg compression.
The ones I just posted are 2526x984 so at least there’s slightly better resolution on it… but it looks like it was straight from an embroidered patch.
quicky google found Fleet Marine Force Wing Decal | North Bay Listings
and
Memorial Wraps – Opening Soon
which seemed promising.
I scaled the second one out to 20" wide. Because it’s B&W, it MIGHT make for better lasering and/or easier inverting of lines…
when that gets “traced” by Inkscape or AI it looses some in the lettering has been my problem
BTW,you guys are awesome, thanks for the feedback!
The best copy of the image that I could find online was basically the same as the one Andrew (@jast) shared (different site, same image). I ran it through a site that usually does pretty good with transforming images into a vector file - which is what you need. It didn’t really do all that great. There is an option on the site to pay someone to draw it by hand… Of course, we have a lot of artist folks at the 'Space as well. You might consider posting a “job” in the Job Listings category and offer to pay a member to draw a nice vector copy for you.
Edit to add: The site is Vector Magic (http://vectormagic.com); and, this is the URL to the results (after I changed it from “high” to “medium” - since medium seems to have given the best results out of the three detail level options. I don’t know how long the URL will work though…): Vector Magic: Convert JPG, PNG images to SVG, EPS, AI vectors
