Acrylic Sheets for DMS?

So, this is random but I was just offered a few hundred DuPont acrylic sheets in varying sizes and tints. Would Makerspace, or any particular department, benefit from a donation like this? I took some footage of the lot of them, which I’ll attach here’s but I also grabbed a few to bring back and check out for quality. The video shows the two smaller sizes, and I have a sample of the larger size with me. I’ll be back at Makers around noon if there’s any interest.

I’m less than familiar with acrylic as a Maker’s medium, so wasn’t sure if it’s one of those materials one would snatch up when offered a good deal.

We’d have until Wednesday to pick up. Thanks!

Attachment hasn’t made it so far.

I’m guessing the issue is how much storage would be required.

@keoliver is plastic SIG lead. He’ll probably weigh in.

Another question is are they just giving this away, or are they looking for a donation letter for taxes? If the latter, then in becomes a DMS exclusive and members can’t get any directly. I suspect that if a letter is required, and if it’s an all or none deal, DMS is unlikely to cross all the hurdles required to take advantage in time.

I know I’d sure like some.

If it can be cut on the laser, we might be interested in some for classes/training/office hours, but I’d want to see the thickness/size first.

I do know that it’s just a “here, get this out of my shed” situation. No letter required.

Then Id say we see if there are few others interested and grab it. Where (roughly) the the area is this?

Plastics sig could certain use some but all of those for classes, training etc . A reasonable amount of them would be welcome .

Sounds like we need to go get them and divvy them up at DMS.

I have a pickup if we need one. I could go Saturday or Sunday morning.

They cannot be stored at DMS for distribution. If there are some committees and/or people who want them and will take them same day that’s fine, but any other storage needs to go through the board/officers iirc…

@coloneldan’s approach with that other stuff similar to this was to place them on freebie shelf. Is that an acceptable solution?

I’d be interested in a stack of them to “play” with, but I’m tied up a bit this weekend. Could get by the 'Space later Sunday evening. If I don’t get any then it isn’t the end of the world.

They can live in the back of my pickup for a few days. Risk will be on thecollectors. I should be at DMS both Saturday and Sunday afternoon and will set out and deliver committee/sig requests if they can’t do it in person.

If I collect on your behalf, you’ll need to define “reasonable” more objectively - weight, stack height, volume limit, etc.

Awesome! So they’re in The Colony. It took about 25 minutes to get there this morning, leaving from DMS. Obvs, I’m happy to help with pickup, and will also be at the Space Saturday and Sunday (and today and probably Friday if I’m being real :crazy_face:).

Also, I was delayed, but I just got here and have a few samples of the sheets if anyone wants to take a look. I’ll be in the workshop. They still have the covers on them. Interwebs says that a heat gun would make easy work of removing them?

I live in the Colony and plan on going to DMS tonight. I might be able to go get some of it if that helps?

I can be there right at around 5 after I get out of work
