Dallas Makerspace Walkthrough 2015
Old times and an entirely different configuration of the 'space.
Featuring among other things some jerk’s slow-moving ultimately doomed Flip Flop resto project taking up space in VECTOR.
I loved those colored lines (@PearceDunlap - thanks!) and I had forgotten about the contentious sleeping chair.
I didn’t join DMS until 2016 but I remember the “old” configuration and facilities very well. I, too, loved the colored directional lines and the “crowdfunding” highlights on the walls. So much fun was had back then. Doacracy seemed much more prevalent then.
Just like when a corporation grows up from its startup phase where everyone knows everone else, to when it IPOs and very few people still know everyone, else such is the nature of growth and human communications. Some of the fun times just get lost in the size of the firm. At least we still have talk.dallasmakerspace.org to keep people informed.
Thanks for posting this trip down memory lane.
Dan, I agree with you that sometimes something is lost with success. I also think the plague had an unfortunate effect of making people hesitant of interaction with others. How about we try to turn that around? This has been talked about in PR and with the Board but we can’t do this alone. You want to help out! It just takes a few to get the ball rolling. Anyone else want to help out “To Get Back to Normal”
And yes, I might know someone who can and is willing to spend some money on this!
Thank you for posting this! We joined in 2017 but it was much the same. So many happy memories!! We are now in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and trying to push “start” on the Makerspace button.
Graham
The Board was just talking about setting up a Discord channel just for the Makerspaces. We can all talk and share ideas and turn to each other for ideas, etc. Chime in if you think that’s a good idea and want to be part of that. On a personal note, it is so good to hear that people who were once part of DMS are still part of DMS!!!
That brings back memories. I made that video. I should make another one. So much has changed since then.
Transparency is all that is needed to share things with others. Conduct business in the open for anyone to observe. Recent trends concern me like requiring a login to see meeting minutes (and other older decisions like a members only category on Talk).
