A DAY in the LIFE of the DATA CENTRE: RACKING SERVERS with ASH & JAMES!

Oh man. I honestly don’t miss the days when I did that at the GTE data center at DFW airport.

Phffft! I installed servers, switches, et al, at Hurricane Electric in Fremont, CA for the hosting company I worked for. They would ship boxes, memory, drives to HE and I would put them together and install them in the racks; BY MYSELF! Back then (2002ish forward), women were seldom seen in the data center. We didn’t have the cute labeled rails. For items needing front and back screws, I would stack boxes to get close the right height. Otherwise I would use a knee or shoulder to help hold it while I quickly put in screws.
