Not sure if this is tree sap. It (appears to be) overspray from some kind of clear coat/acrylic/sealant. It likely occurred Thursday or Friday evening in the rear parking area of DMS.
I do not know what it is, but it does not come up easily. Isopropyl alcohol and elbow grease gets some of it… but it will require more effort to remove it from all of the windows and headlights.
I’m not arguing, or saying you’re wrong, but that LOOKS LIKE crape myrtle juice, which is prevalent this time of year…
And it can be tenacious, too, though warm water and soap will usually get it.
Good luck on getting rid of whatever it is, and if you’re right, and it’s something sprayed around the 'Space, shame on the culprit.
Since I don’t know with certainty if indeed this was overspray of some kind or crape myrtle juice… pardon moi. I may be jumping to conclusions.
Nevertheless, I haven’t parked anywhere differently than I ordinarily have this past week. Nor have I ever seen this stuff on my car before. So… yes… a bit of an assumption upon my behalf.
Oh well… in either case as our membership grows our parking lot gets more dense and more members need space to spray stuff. So, the need is there. shrug
It may have been suggested and rejected before for some reason, but are we really saying we couldn’t rig up a portable, collapsible spray tent à la this: $50 DIY Collapsible Spray Paint Tent1? Or two or three of varyiong sizes? Sounds hard to believe.
Try #000 ~OR~ #0000 steel wool, and it will take it right off with out scratching the window. Make sure you do not press down. You rub as lightly as possible, and it will clean mirrors, windows, windshields, chrome amongst all the things it will do. It will make chrome so clean and reflective it will look black(ish). Also make sure the window and the wool are dry.
What would it take to ban any use of aerosols or spray paint at DMS? I am not comfortable with people being forced into the parking lot and potentially damaging member cars
@nickdangerous I seriously doubt that it over spray. In order to get that consistent of a spread on your window would require some serious over spray skills. More likely than not it is sap. Sap is a bitch to clean up as it is often like natural resin. Before we start the witch hunt and banning of aerosol cans at DMS, we need better proof of abuse.
Some spray paint on concrete here and there is going to happen and as long as we react properly we should be able to stop that behavior. But banning the use of aerosol paint and lacquer seems a bit much, as they are used in many ways around the space.
Yep… jury is out. All I have is weird coincidental evidence. My routine at DMS → home → DMS → home is pretty tight so it seemed odd how this occurred seemingly out of the blue.
But, after giving it more consideration, the evidence does appear to lean in the direction of some unforeseen crape myrtle tree…
Too many pinballs to fix… and too little time to notice life’s little irritants along the way. So I say let’s not use this event as fodder for a no-spraying rule.
(but agreed a dedicated paint zone/room would be nice regardless)
