7 segment led drivers

@Raymond @mrcity

Hey guys,

Either of you know an equivalent chip to the old icm7218D to drive 7 segment leds?

@raymond would you happen to have any of these in your stash?

Looks like Mouser stocks this as a Maxim part:

I think a lot of the old Intersil parts ended up at Maxim.

Yeah i saw those at 10.00 a chip, ouch

I’m wondering if these would work at 2.50 a chip

Sorry, I’m on the road.

If you don’t like the cost of dedicated chips, you can use modern microcontrollers to perform the same function, often at significantly less cost

Have you tried Tanner? That part number looks familiar.

Or like Walter suggests, program an AVR or other microcontroller to do the job if fidelity of restoration is not important.

Yes Tanner has 14 of em, which i’m going to pick up, however, thats the last batch i’ve found at a good price.

Unfortunately i am not a code guru, just looking to replicate a scoreboard configuration that used 2 of those chips to run 16 7 segment leds.

If Tanner had them and you need more, then try BG Micro in Garland. They are a mail order house but their stock is listed on their webpage. Ask Jim Tanner at Tanner’s if BG Micro would have them, the two of them know each other very well.

Looks like they have the 7218B version, I need the D version.
