501(c)(3) formation

I know this might be a longshot but is there anyone at DMS who is familiar with the rules/law associated with forming a 501©(3)? Who was responsible for setting up DMS as one?

I’m a member of an organization that would like to transition its tax status from a 501©(19) (Military affiliated non-profit) to a 501©(3). I know we care hire an attorney, and probably will, but I just wondered if DMS had any experienced folks in this regard.

If you have any pointers, etc I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks.

Was trying to tag that guy that filed it, and it took me a while to realize why I can’t. (Andrew LeCody).

Thanks Kent. Can you PM me an email for Andrew? Thanks much. I know he’s off of talk, hopefully temporarily.

For anyone who is interested, Collin College offers a Nonprofit Management Certificate series of courses (5-6 evening courses, 12-15 hours each).

He’s on Facebook too

I used the Foundation Group when I set up the scholarship organization for which I am the secretary/treasurer. Their web site is https://www.501c3.org/.
