50 Ton Hydraulic press has been repaired

I replaced the winch on the side of the press last night with a worm drive unit.

Note:
The photo shows the damage from obvious abuse.

Or lack of robustness-quality a contributing factor.

No, this was a clear case of abuse. Unfortunately the blue gantry had been moved and blocked the camera angle during the time of the abuse.

This was done at the same time the press plate was bent.

Clearly a case of “it isn’t mine and I don’t care about anyone else”

I’m sure you know if it was abused or not as you’ve inspected it. But, in November when I was last there I used the press for some hub bearings and needed to raise and lower the cross bar and the wench was badly worn then too. The cable had worn a grove in the roller bar making using it difficult. It was a poor design and cheap for sure. You had to take care and use it gingerly, but definitely on its way out.

Owen, I agree with you.

The winch was garbage - the winch system is a nice idea but it is poorly built and even worse poorly built with bottom of the barrel parts in China.

To be fair - the only winches readily available are made offshore, so…the worm gear/sector drive winch on it now is certainly not “superior” in quality but it was the better choice. Fewer moving parts, idiot proof, intuitive, etc.

The press plate getting bent like it is - there is ZERO reason or excuse for that.

I’ve heard there is another camera that sees the press - so I will review that video tonight.
