5 stripped easy turn set screws in a few weeks is too many

Not really sure why there has been such an increase in the hex screws on the carbide tipped easy tools being stripped in the last few weeks but it’s up to five. If you need to change one REMOVE ALL DUST AND DEBRIS FROM THE HEAD OF THE SCREW OR ASK FOR HELP. They are very easily stripped and not very easily drilled out. Thank you kindly

Please remember: There is that very special tool (often mistaken a staple) designed to dig out all the debris from the socket so the hex tool seats solidly.

Also report it under issues and requests please

everyone knows that screws require at least 2000 lbs of torque to be set. especially the small ones. Better get out the cheater bar for that.

Part of me wants to laugh at that statement. The other part of me wants to cry.

That sounds like work when we have numerous impact drivers around.

Compressed air also works wonders for clearing them out, no need to hunt down that specialized tool!

Joking aside, for those that don’t know the hex screws on the easy turn tools don’t require a lot to tighten. Just use your thumb and index finger and a tiny amount of pressure.

All you need are skews

For the love of 5lbs 8oz baby Jesus stop giving people more ideas, we already have folk creative enough to come up with this.

They don’t need help, well they do but not with creativity.

Seriously though, if anyone strips a screw please put it on talk under issues and requests. It’s just like any other tool that needs repair and it sucks to be the next person trying to use it when nobody knows it’s messed up.

What is the size of the screw?

We should switch to a torx style set screw, they are harder to mess up. Also moving away from an ‘L’ key to a hex or torx screw driver will also likely minimize issues. Also using a high quality steel set screw will help, using stainless steel or pop mental set screws is always a bad idea.

In machine shop we have a bunch of torque setting screw drivers that could be used.

Telling people not to do something almost never works, you need to make it easy for them to do the right thing.
