Looks like someone dumped a load of materials into the machine shop fire egress. Someone brought them in at 3 am and just left them there.
If someone could move them out of the way that would be excellent.

Throw it in the damn dumpster.
@axeonos as the person responsible for maintaining the floorspace that is being abused, what is your plan to address this chronic problem?
I disagree with your assertion that axeonos is the responsible party. Everyone at dms is responsible.
If it’s still there when I get in (after 7 pm), then I’ll address it. Like, move it somewhere else. Try to figure out who dumped it there…
My understanding is that Logistics has the responsibility AND the authority to address this. Ditto for for the work area and especially the work tables. Everyone may share some responsibility but there is a chair that it falls to.
Respectfully, as this is a life safety issue, everyone is empowered to address it. It is EVERYONE’s responsibility to keep fire pathways clear. Failure to do so can have consequences…
I didnt specify such, but I was responding to the word chronic in Brandon’s post, not this only. I agree with you in this instance.
@yashsedai If that’s how you really feel, then put a motion before the board to declare it so. Let’s not all sit here and armchair lawyer it to death; just get the space cleared.
The current rules describe it:
It is the responsibility of each member to help enforce the Code of Conduct. If someone is violating the Code of Conduct politely explain to them why their behavior is not acceptable. Egregious violations should be reported to a Director or the President.
Clean, Maintain, Organize, Improve. Always leave the space better than you found it.[2]
All members are expected to maintain a safe and clean environment at all times.
It is already in the rules… @yashsedai is correct
All members are expected to maintain a safe and clean environment at all times.
I’m not at the space or I would take care of it
Then make something explicitly clear that says ANYONE can dumpster ANYTHING that has been left out to compromise life safety.
The fact that this thread is still going is evidence that such a declaration is needed, cause nobody agrees on what to do.
We are not currently enabling the folks with that high a level of OCD. Mistakes can be made, and forgiven. While I personally have no qualms about jumping into a dumpster to retrieve things ('cause that’s how my OCD runs), it’s a final (and bad) solution for many.
Go ahead . . . tell that to the DMS Membership when the Fire Marshall locks the doors and everybody is out on the street. We are already skating on thin ice with the Fire Marshall as it is, no need to add more fuel to the fire. The title of this thread says “5 min task”, yet after 4 hours we are still complaining about how to move it.
I’ll be by there shortly.
That is not fair … many people are not at the space.
There is a reason we don’t dumpster storage immediately, we offsite it. If a project falls over and you consider it in the way of a fire exit, by all means pick it up and move it out of the way. Don’t be in a mad rush to dumpster projects or materials, We don’t behave that way with storage or the lost and found shelf.
We darn well should pitch it. Nobody is talking about leaving something for two seconds while they park… The areas in question are absolutely not designated storage! It’s a loading dock! That “freebie” shelf has been nothing but an indoor dumpster from day one.
If we don’t want members doing the dumpster-ing, then logistics is de facto failing in their duties, because if I can’t as an individual member, then they can as a committee and won’t.
Somebody give us some direction here, cause there’s a clear path out the door either way.
Who is talking about the freebie shelf? I said Lost and Found- the shelf in the common room.
I don’t disagree. Logistics needs to clean up that area and offsite the stuff. @Team_Logistics
Fair enough. I saw lost and found and brain read freebie. Guess I found my own nerve there…
