While I generally would consider this an inappropriate forum for such discussions, it certainly seems as though this relatively important agenda item has flown under the radar.
My main opposition to this item as listed is the lack of an appropriate solution. Removal of a committee chair, as I see it, creates an additional (and arguably greater) problem: the lack of oversight and leadership of a committee. The proposed solution to this agenda item is severely deficient.
The proposed solution should include a person to fill the chair. In an ideal world (we know no such thing exists), this person would be willing to teach the necessary classes (namely Woodshop 101), coordinate willing instructors, and be able to perform routine repair and maintenance on the equipment (i.e. has at least a moderate working knowledge of the tools). Should an extremely underqualified person be appointed to this position, their hindrance would be no less than the accused’s.
As an aside, the threat of appointing an underqualified person to this position unless someone else finds an appropriately qualified individual is ridiculous.
IMHO, this matter should be tabled (among other reasons) as a matter of course due to an insufficient proposed solution.
