2008 Miata revival

I pickup up a Miata with a blown motor from @pandabob a few months ago.

I got it back on the road last week and figured I would post an update!! I intended to do this all at the makerspace, but I was not able to start on the car until my wife was 38 week pregnant. Seemed like a better idea to do it in my garage where I could stop and leave.

I decided to do the popular 2.5 swap. I pickup up a low mileage motor from a local junk yard.

This was the first time I had done anything past a timing belt job, it was a great experience!

Here is the album with all the pictures.

Very nice!

Mind sharing the costs and how long it took you?

Somewhere around 2k for the swap.

Motor - 600
Engine crane, motor stand, transmission lift - 400
Fluids, gaskets, random parts- 400ish
Ecutek to flash ecu and custom tune - 600

It took me around 20 hours, someone with experience and a lift could do it alot faster. It was also alot of 1-2 hour nights after work and waiting for parts which slowed progress.

Awesome!

Now the real question. Would you do it again?

Thanks!

Yes, but with at least a 2 ton engine crane.
I cheaped out on a 1 ton and it was a terrible idea.

And the important question … how is your wife doing? :grinning:

She is good. Our baby girl was born on dec 5th so the wife is finally starting to feel like a human again.

This is our first kid so it is a big lifestyle change.

Luckily I have an suv to satisfy the wife for now!! As long as I keep the costs below her radar I should be good.

Good plan!

Like some things in the defense dept. … there are some things that some folks just don’t need to know about…
