12v car battery charger recommendations

Guys,
I think I fried my car batttery charger today. So stupid! I had it in 2A mode and tried to start it by mistake.

Which charger do you guys like?

Thanks,
Tres

I have this one, It does a damn good job. I recovered a deeply discharged Optima. I do mean deeply too, It was dead for over a year.

Awesome! Thank you.

Will this one work form the cigarette lighter socket?

Not that I’m aware of, They have pigtails you can change, they have extensions & stuff.
Ive left it outside for some time & it still works

That went the way of the Dodo since around '03. Someone thought it was a good idea to key the cigarette lighter ports to the ignition, so they don’t stay active when the car hasn’t pulled in the ACC contactor.

My last car (I’ve only bought VW so I may be wrong from the US made car side) that had a 12V plug that stayed on when the car was shut off was '01.

As I was looking on Amazon, I saw a CTEK lighter plug pigtail. I assume it works with any of their chargers that use the pigtail system.

Now if it had two lighter plugs then you wouldn’t need AC at all. Just plug into two different lighter sockets in your car and charge from one to the other

My 15 Transit has the cigarette port on when off. My 07 Wrangler has one of each, one that is tied to ACC & the other hot all the time.

Mostly I was just trying to be ridiculous since trying to charge your car battery from a car cigarette lighter (intentionally being anachronistic) is a little to self-referential to actually work.

But I succeeded in being a little too ridiculous, as I should have made it clearer I wasn’t suggesting one car to another.

For some reason my battery chargers have Anderson power pole connectors. And the cars are slowly getting power pole connectors under the hood and in the passenger compartment. Always fused appropriately at the battery end. Often 40A.

You mean my idea of plugging a power strip into itself isn’t going to work as well as the fan I have on the bow of my sailboat?

Your problem is it should be on the stern blowing wind … INTO the sail.

So, I know you guys are on the edge of your seats…

My solution was buying a NIB Schumacher 1281 for $50…the guy has more.

It has the 100A starting capability I want. I’ll use that and send the one I blew back for repairs. Thank you all for your inputs.

Bah. Sailboats can sail into the wind, albeit not directly into the wind.
